Borders A Way Of Marking Territory, By Donella H. Meadows

Borders are arbitrary, and only have power if we, as humans, give them power. As Donella H. Meadows discusses, we’ve created borders as a way of marking territory, but in reality, they are little more than human distinctions. The subjectivity of borders is also enforced through how rapidly they change through happenings such as climate change and governmental decisions. Even so, we as an international community place a vast amount of importance on these political lines to the extent that we’ve allowed migration to become something challenging and often dangerous to do. People migrate for a multitude of reasons, including but not limited to: moving from a developing country to a developed country, moving from a place where their human rights are being violated, moving for jobs and money earning opportunities, moving away from internal conflict and war, and moving from areas affected by natural disasters. Recently, there has been an influx of people migrating to Europe, and the continent has been affectively transformed from a place of emigration to a place of immigration. Many of the migrants who want to enter into Europe are moving in an attempt to escape the harsh post-colonial way of life in Northern Africa, and in order to find a way to earn a living. Migrants make treacherous journeys, often risking their lives, in the hopes of crossing borders and improving their circumstances, but often find that the outcome is not what they were looking for. Quantitative Methods in Decsion Making Essay - 1584 Words

Decision Making Betty Pittman Grand Canyon University Quantitative Methods November 16, 2011 Decision Making Analytics competitors are leaders in their varied fields consumer products, finance, retail, and entertainment. For organizations to become and prosper as an analytics competitor they must use analytics data because many industries offer similar products and use comparable technologies, business processes are among the last remaining points of differentiation. And analytics competitors use every possible analytics value from these processes. In order for organizations to prosper they must know what products their customers want, what prices those customers will pay, how many items each will buy†¦show more content†¦Quantitative analysis can allow decision maker to put a â€Å"price† on the sum total of qualitative characteristics. For example, suppose Air Trans’ controller gives top management a quantitative analysis showing that by the elimination of the flight to Rome will increase annual profits by $2,000,000. But the quantitative considerati ons favor the option of continuing the Rome flight. If the top managers decided to continue the flight to Rome, the quantitative consideration must be worth at least $2,000,000 to them. The quantitative consideration is the essence of management decision making process. The skill, experience, judgment, and ethical standards of managers all come to bear on difficult choices. In reading this article and other articles I’ve learned there are three criteria that stood out for me that played an important role in quantitative analysis when decision are to be made and they are relevance, accuracy, information that is pertinent to a decision problem must also be accurate, or it will be of little use. In other words, highly accurate but irrelevant data are of no value to top management when making decisions. Timeliness is the third important criterion for determining the usefulness of information. A long wait for accurate information can delay management’s decision. Colon Cancer Treatment and Prevention Free Essays

As representatives of the citizens of New York State, we have a responsibility to ensure that everyone has access to the highest quality health care possible. As a State Senator. I have worked aggressively to fight for increased funding for cancer education and prevention, and to improve and expand health care coverage and treatment, including legislation we are working hard to approve — the Women†s Health and Wellness Act — which would expand treatment and prevention services and insurance coverage for breast cancer and other illnesses facing women in particular. We will write a custom essay sample on Colon Cancer Treatment and Prevention or any similar topic only for you Order Now Colon cancer is currently the second leading cause of cancer deaths, followed only by lung cancer. This year, 130,200 Americans will be diagnosed with colon cancer. Nearly half, 56,300, will die from it. Focusing on expanding treatment and coverage for colon cancer is of critical importance in our continued efforts to provide greater access to preventative health care for all citizens. Because early detection is the key in fighting colon cancer and many other illnesses, it is critically important that we continue to educate people on how they can help to prevent colon cancer – by getting a colon cancer screenings like colonoscopies. Many people are apprehensive about the test itself, which is why we must continue to advocate for quality education and prevention services. One tremendous resource we have here in our region, right here in Rochester, is the University of Rochester†s Institute of Biomedical Sciences where scientists work diligently everyday to help find more effective ways to fight cancer. As the senior member of the Rochester State Legislative Delegation, I worked with my colleagues and Governor Pataki to secure $7 million in State assistance for the Institute and will continue to fight to support these important and life-saving endeavors. Certainly I support providing our health care consumers with greater access to prevention services and more expansive insurance coverage for colon cancer treatments and would encourage everyone interested in this issue to contact their State representatives to share their views and concerns. Common Courtesy by A Day To Remember free essay sample

Common Courtesy Album Review The Pop-punk band of Ocala Florida,A Day To Remember(ADTR), released their 7th studio album on October 8th, 2013. This album, Common Courtesy, was long anticipated by fans, including myself, for many reasons. The â€Å"theme† of the album is never giving up and dealing with all the â€Å"crap† that life throws at you, and when people judge you, hurt you, or neglect you, as long as you stay true to your dreams and yourself you will prevail. The songs City Of Ocala. Right Back At It Again, Dead And Buried, Best Of Me, Sometimes You’re The Hammer Sometimes You’re The Nail, and Violence (Enough Is Enough) best demonstrate a strong emphasis on the â€Å"theme.† The First half of the album is mostly hard-core, fast beats and melodies. Best Of Me best shows the fast paced, dirty side of the band in this album. The second half of the album is a more slower side but still great nonetheless, it has one or two acoustic songs that reflect the softer side of AD TR. We will write a custom essay sample on Common Courtesy by A Day To Remember or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page With both sides of the album it feels like you’re part of the bands’ personal issues that they write about. The sequence at which the album would go is: knowing where you came from, putting up with others that doubt you, giving in to temptation and eventually fighting the haters, and after the fight thinking over what happened and realizing that fighting wasnt the right route to take to resolve this. My personal favorite song on the album is Sometime You’re The Hammer Sometimes You’re The Nail, the fast-paced guitar riffs with the edgy voice of Jeremy make for a great song. If I was to rate the album I would probably give it eight out of ten, mostly cause I am not that impressed with the slower songs, but that’s just me. I encourage everyone, whether you are into pop-punk or not, to listen to this album with an open mind and try to find something you like in it. You can buy this album for $8 at Target, Best Buy, or on Itunes.
